A lot goes into choosing the correct domain name for your site. Every second, 60 domain names are being registered all over the world. Its how many companies are able to identify themselves from the world wide web crowd. A domain name should be memorable and add to your brand. So it is important to keep some things in mind…
Choose right package-
When buying a domain name there’s usually an option to buy it for anywhere between one to ten years. Really consider going for a longer option. A website that is based around a business will need to keep its domain name the same so customers can keep going back. The name may not always be available or grabbed by someone else. Having to repeatedly change domains can be frustrating for loyal customers. It is always worth shopping round for your domain name as some registrars will try and charge twenty times the amount that it is actually worth.
Be Creative…
Do you think Google would have been so popular if it had the plain name of just Searchengine? Its catchy and has a touch of ‘fun’ about it. A creative industry business can really benefit from an unusual domain name, its a great way of summing up the ethos and attitude of company, creating more appeal from your customers. A boring domian name might have connotations of a boring company that can even be bother with creativity. This will most likely be untrue, but its your job to make sure that is not the impression you give. Make sure you do your research on what name you are wanting, theres no point having an interesting domain name if theres millions of other companies similar to yours thinking on the same creative line as you.
…But be logical!
Its all well and good to be creative with your domain name but don’t go mad! What may have seemed like a good idea at the time, could prove to be the down fall of your site. Having a name that is totally inappropriate for your site could badly damage your business’ reputation, even if it seems funny and a bit of a joke to you, customers might not share your sense of humor. Bring a certain amount of restraint to your choices, a domain that is too long is pointless if no one can rememeber it. The same goes for one that is overly difficult to spell, it will be too much of a hassle for your customers.
As long as you keep these points in mind you should be able to choose a very successful domain name for your site.
